Into The Asylum: Wanda Advises Caution

"Thank you," Wanda said as Werner helped her across the pit. "You are a gentleman."

She was still piqued that he'd clambered into the hole without so much as thinking, but Wanda realised he just really, really thought that was the right thing to do.

"Werner," she said, laying a hand on his shoulder. "Look, that was a brave thing to do. Well done for getting the elf out. I mean that." She looked up at his towering bulk, an earnest expression on her face.

"But, please be careful. We had no idea what that trap was about. If we had been attacked, and both of you were down that hole, what would the rest of us have done? Kirsten's right - the closest I've been to a fight was the debating society in finishing school. I couldn't have done much at all, and I doubt that Harbull could have either. "

Wanda patted his shoulder and moved up the corridor. Raising her voice, she said, "I think we should have someone who knows how to fight protecting our rear. Just because someone hasn't come to investigate the trap doesn't mean they don't know we're here and that we're not supposed to be. If they've caught us once, they could easily catch us again, and whilst I am happy to do my bit, I can't help thinking you'd all be a lot more comfortable if someone bigger and meaner than me had us covered?"

She turned to face Johann and shrugged. "Unfortunately, I don't know any magic to light our path. Not been much use tonight, I'm afraid. But if someone has a torch, I'd be happy to hold that." May as well add some value, she thought.

With that, Wanda moved into the middle of the group, nodding to Kirsten on the way. Earlier, she couldn't possibly imagine what she might have in common with her, but, given how useless Wanda felt, she didn't feel judged by the other woman at all. Perhaps, one day - assuming their association continued, Kirsten might be able to teach her how to use a sword?

    1. I suspect you may be right. Ah well, folks live down here after all. No doubt we'll find some light eventually.
